In October 2017, 120 former open-heart patients returned for a patient reunion.
When Dr. Coady’s office sent out invitations to former patients for a small gathering at the hospital, they hoped to have as many as two dozen people show interest in reuniting. Then the RSVPs started pouring in—and they didn’t stop. What began as a humble show of appreciation from a doctor to his patients quickly exploded into an outpouring of gratitude for the change he effected on each of their lives.
Ultimately, more than 100 people traveled back to the hospital for the chance to celebrate. After a warm welcome from Dr. Coady, many attendees took advantage of the open microphone to give thanks and share their own stories with the crowd. Over handshakes, hugs, and cake, former patients of all ages bonded together, forming friendships that will last a lifetime.
Said one attendee: “It’s so wonderful that we were all able to come together. Can we do it again next year?”
